About One Plus

What is One Plus Medical Plan?

One Plus Medical Plan is a discount medical plan designed to help individuals and families save on participating healthcare services.

Members can access negotiated rates and services that may include primary care, specialists, dental, vision, pharmacy, laboratory and diagnostic services, depending on the membership selected.

One Plus provides a simple way to access healthcare savings without the traditional insurance claims process. One Plus Medical Plan is not health insurance and does not pay medical claims. Members pay participating providers directly at the applicable member rate.

Is One Plus Medical Plan health insurance?

No. One Plus Medical Plan is a medical discount plan, not health insurance.

It gives members access to participating healthcare providers and negotiated rates on eligible medical and healthcare services. Unlike health insurance, One Plus does not pay medical claims or reimburse healthcare providers — members pay participating providers directly for the services they receive.

For many members, One Plus can be a helpful way to make everyday healthcare expenses more manageable.

How does One Plus Medical Plan work?

One Plus Medical Plan gives members access to participating healthcare providers and negotiated member rates.

After enrolling, members can search for participating providers and use the services available through their selected membership. When receiving an eligible service, the member presents their membership information and pays the applicable member rate directly to the provider.

There are no traditional insurance claims for One Plus to process because One Plus is a medical discount plan, not insurance. See How It Works for a step-by-step walkthrough.

Who can use One Plus Medical Plan?

One Plus Medical Plan is designed for individuals and families looking for an affordable way to access everyday healthcare services. It may be especially helpful for people without health insurance, self-employed individuals, independent contractors, families, people between insurance plans, and anyone paying significant out-of-pocket healthcare expenses.

One Plus can complement a person's overall healthcare strategy, but it is not a substitute for comprehensive health insurance.

Can families use One Plus Medical Plan?

Yes. One Plus offers membership options for individuals, couples and families.

A family membership can provide eligible family members access to participating providers and negotiated rates for services included in the selected plan. Services, participating providers and pricing depend on the membership selected — see Plans.

No Health Insurance

Can I use One Plus if I don't have health insurance?

Yes. You can join and use One Plus even if you do not have health insurance.

One Plus can help members access participating doctors and other healthcare services at negotiated member rates, making certain everyday healthcare expenses more manageable.

One Plus is a medical discount plan and not health insurance, so it should not be considered a replacement for major medical insurance.

What can I do if I don't have health insurance?

If you do not have health insurance, you have several options to explore.

First, check whether you qualify for an ACA Marketplace plan, Medicaid, employer-sponsored health insurance or another comprehensive insurance option.

If you remain uninsured or want another way to save on routine healthcare, One Plus Medical Plan can help members access participating doctors, dental services, vision services, prescriptions, labs and other healthcare services at negotiated rates. One Plus is not insurance, but it can be a useful tool for managing everyday healthcare expenses.

Can I see a doctor without health insurance?

Yes. You can see a doctor without health insurance.

Without insurance, patients generally pay for the visit themselves. One Plus Medical Plan can help members access participating primary care doctors and specialists at negotiated member rates. This can make eligible doctor visits more affordable than paying a provider's standard price.

One Plus Medical Plan is not health insurance and does not pay the provider on the member's behalf.

How can I save money on doctor visits without insurance?

There are several ways to save money on doctor visits without health insurance, including asking about self-pay rates and using participating providers through a medical discount program.

One Plus Medical Plan gives members access to negotiated rates with participating providers for eligible healthcare services. This can provide a simpler and potentially more affordable way to access routine medical care. Actual prices and participating providers vary by service and location.

Lost or Expensive Health Insurance

I recently lost my health insurance. What are my options?

If you recently lost health insurance, you may have several options available.

Losing qualifying health insurance may make you eligible for a Special Enrollment Period through the ACA Health Insurance Marketplace. You may also have options through an employer, COBRA, Medicaid or another insurance program.

While exploring those options, One Plus Medical Plan can also provide access to negotiated rates on participating healthcare services. One Plus is a medical discount plan, not health insurance.

What should I do if I lost health insurance after losing my job?

Losing job-based health insurance may qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

Depending on your situation, you may also qualify for COBRA, a spouse's employer plan, Medicaid or another health insurance option.

If you're looking for an affordable way to access certain healthcare services while evaluating those options, One Plus Medical Plan provides members with negotiated rates through participating providers.

What can I do if health insurance is too expensive?

If health insurance feels too expensive, first check whether you qualify for ACA financial assistance, Medicaid, an employer-sponsored plan or another insurance program.

For everyday healthcare expenses, a medical discount plan such as One Plus may also help. One Plus members can access negotiated rates for eligible services that may include medical visits, dental care, vision services, prescriptions, laboratory testing and diagnostic services.

One Plus is not health insurance, but it can provide another way to save on participating healthcare services.

What happens if I missed Open Enrollment for health insurance?

Missing Open Enrollment does not always mean you are out of options.

Certain life events — such as losing health insurance, moving, getting married or having a baby — may qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

If you do not qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, One Plus Medical Plan may still provide access to discounted healthcare services through participating providers while you explore your options. One Plus enrollment is separate from ACA Open Enrollment because One Plus is not health insurance.

Immigration & Social Security

Do I need a Social Security number to join One Plus Medical Plan?

No. A Social Security number is not required to join One Plus Medical Plan.

One Plus is designed to make participating healthcare services accessible to a wide range of individuals and families. Eligibility requirements may vary depending on the specific membership or service selected.

Can undocumented immigrants join One Plus Medical Plan?

Yes. Undocumented individuals can join One Plus Medical Plan.

One Plus does not require a Social Security number to enroll, making the program available to many individuals and families who may have difficulty accessing other healthcare options.

Members can use participating providers and receive the applicable negotiated rates available through their membership. One Plus is a medical discount plan and is not health insurance.

Can immigrants without health insurance use One Plus?

Yes. Individuals without health insurance, including many immigrants, can use One Plus Medical Plan.

No Social Security number is required to join One Plus. Members can access participating providers and eligible healthcare services at negotiated member rates based on the membership selected.

One Plus is not health insurance and does not pay medical claims.

Medical Services

Can One Plus help with specialist visits?

Yes. One Plus Medical Plan provides access to participating medical specialists for eligible services.

Members receive the applicable negotiated rate and pay the participating provider directly, which can make specialist care more accessible and easier to budget for. Provider availability and pricing vary depending on specialty and location. See Doctors & Urgent Care.

Do I need a referral to see a specialist with One Plus?

Many services available through One Plus do not require the traditional insurance referral process.

Members can search for participating specialists and contact the provider directly to confirm appointment requirements. Because individual providers may have their own policies, members should always confirm requirements before scheduling an appointment.

Does One Plus include laboratory and diagnostic services?

Yes. One Plus memberships may include access to discounted or specified member rates for eligible laboratory and diagnostic services through participating providers.

Depending on the membership, these may include certain laboratory tests, imaging services and diagnostic procedures. Members should verify the provider, service and applicable member rate before receiving care. See Labs & Diagnostic Imaging.

Dental, Vision & Prescriptions

How can I get affordable dental care without dental insurance?

You do not necessarily need dental insurance to save money on dental care.

Dental discount programs provide access to participating dentists who offer reduced prices on eligible services. Depending on your One Plus membership, services may include dental evaluations, cleanings and discounts on additional dental procedures. See Dental & Vision.

One Plus dental benefits are part of a discount program and are not dental insurance.

Does One Plus include vision benefits?

Yes. Eligible One Plus memberships include savings on vision services through participating providers.

Depending on the membership selected, members may receive access to services such as eye exams and discounts on eligible eyewear. Services, member rates and participating providers may vary.

One Plus is a discount plan and not vision insurance.

Can One Plus help me save money on prescription medications?

Yes. One Plus may provide prescription savings through participating pharmacies.

The amount you can save depends on the medication, pharmacy and location. Members should compare the available One Plus price with other pharmacy prices to determine the best available option.

Prescription savings through One Plus are discounts and not prescription drug insurance.

Hospital Advocacy

What is Hospital Advocacy?

Hospital Advocacy is a service designed to help eligible members navigate certain hospital bills and medical billing situations.

An advocate may review eligible bills, communicate with the healthcare provider and seek possible reductions or payment arrangements when appropriate. Every situation is different, so a specific reduction cannot be guaranteed. See ER Visits & Hospital Advocacy.

Hospital Advocacy is not health insurance and does not pay hospital claims.

Self-Employed & Small Business

Is One Plus a good option for self-employed people and independent contractors?

One Plus may be a valuable option for self-employed individuals, freelancers and independent contractors who want to save on everyday healthcare services.

Members can access participating providers and negotiated rates without needing employer-sponsored benefits.

Because One Plus is not comprehensive health insurance, self-employed individuals should also consider whether major medical insurance is appropriate for their needs.

Can small business owners offer One Plus to employees?

One Plus may provide an affordable way for businesses and organizations to give employees access to healthcare savings.

Membership options can help employees save on eligible services through participating medical, dental, vision and other healthcare providers. Business availability and membership options should be confirmed directly with One Plus.

One Plus is a medical discount plan, not employer-sponsored health insurance.

Understanding Medical Discount Plans

What is a medical discount plan?

A medical discount plan is a membership program that gives members access to reduced prices from participating healthcare providers.

The program negotiates rates or discounts with participating providers, and the member pays the provider directly when receiving an eligible service. Medical discount plans can help make everyday healthcare costs more manageable.

A medical discount plan is not health insurance and does not pay or reimburse medical claims.

What is the difference between a medical discount plan and health insurance?

Health insurance generally involves an insurance company assuming financial risk and paying eligible medical claims according to the terms of an insurance policy.

A medical discount plan works differently. Instead of paying claims, it gives members access to participating providers that offer eligible healthcare services at negotiated or discounted rates. The member then pays the provider directly.

One Plus Medical Plan is a medical discount plan, not health insurance.

Enrollment

Can I enroll in One Plus at any time of the year?

Yes. One Plus enrollment is not tied to the ACA Open Enrollment period.

Eligible individuals and families can enroll throughout the year. This can make One Plus especially convenient for people who need access to healthcare savings outside of the traditional health insurance enrollment calendar.

One Plus is a medical discount plan, not health insurance.

How do I enroll in One Plus Medical Plan?

Joining One Plus Medical Plan is simple.

Choose the membership option that fits your needs and complete the enrollment process online or with a One Plus representative. Once your membership is active, you can review participating providers, explore available services and begin using the applicable member rates.
